Marc Jacobs Muse Larsen Thompson Talks Love, Freckles, and Family

Marc Jacobs

Porcelain, glowing and sprinkled with freckles, Larsen Thompson's face still maintains an ounce of anonymity. And yet, if the quadruple threat's recent string of successes (i.e. modeling, acting, and dancing her way through P!nk's music video for "Beautiful Trauma,") serve as any kind of indication, those remaining drops of obscurity will materialize shortly. For one, she's just collaborated with Marc Jacobs as one of the brand's official Friends of Daisy, just in time for its newest fragrance launch, Daisy Love ($84). Which, as a longtime fan of the brand, has been a dream come true for Thompson. And another exciting accomplishment the 17-year-old can add to her already outstanding rГ©sumГ©.

"Marc Jacobs has always been one of my favorite brands, and I'm so happy to work with such an amazing team. Everyone has been so kind and fun, and we always have a really good time." (As it happens, that is exactly how I'd retrospectively describe the entirety of our 15-minute interview.) Plus, there's the fact that the fragrance itself couldn't feel like a more appropriate match for Thompson and is an exciting new addition to the already well-established collection of Daisy Marc Jacobs fragrances. As a quick debrief, the ever-evolving sisterhood of scents has been around for more than a decade and almost feels like an omni-fresh rite of passage for the girl who loves to embody all things sun-drenched, spontaneous, and charming. Thompson, I quickly learn, epitomizes this and then some.

As we settle into matching velveteen and chartreuse chairs, the perfume is quickly spritzed so I can get a whiff of the new scent, which Thompson already describes as a personal favorite. Designed as a slight departure from the brand's trademark campaigns that typically feature hazy, sunbathed fields of the namesake flower, Daisy Love transports its wearer to the beach instead. (Later on in the evening, a launch celebration will appropriately take place at the iconic Santa Monica Pier.) So what does the fragrance smell like? Crystalized cloudberries, cashmere musks, driftwood, and, of course, daisy tree petals-a familiar combination but with just enough twists and turns to make the launch equal parts fresh and intoxicating.

But in addition to familiarizing myself with the brand-new fragrance (and Instagramming a photo of the adorable bottle), I'll also be familiarizing myself with Thompson, who's quickly establishing herself as an up-and-coming sensation in the industry-a second exciting new launch if you will. From her love for fragrance to the lessons she's learned from the inspirational women in her life, keep reading to get to know Larsen Thompson and Daisy Love.

On Fragrance

Marc Jacobs Daisy Love $84Shop

"My taste in fragranceВ has pretty much always been the same. I'm actually really drawn to very sweet,В strong perfumes.В I love Daisy Love because it's so elegant-it's so feminine. It has the ability to make you feel youthful. You can put it on before going out with friends or wear it to a fancy dinner. YouВ could even bring it to the beach. It just feels so dreamy. I'm a dancer, and after a long class, I always want to smell good. It's definitely my favoriteВ fragrance because it has that sweetness which I love but it's never overpowering. I don't feel like I have anything on. It just feels natural, sweet, and fun."

On Her Evolving Beauty Aesthetic

"As I've gotten older, I've really learned to see beauty in different ways. Also, from being in this industry, I've learned to just be myself. It's the most important thing. There are so many people who are going to tell you what to do and what not to do. Also, I think my interpretation of what defines beauty has shifted. It's not about observing and understanding beauty as just one thing or focusing on certain traits and being like 'oh, that'sВ what's beautiful.' Instead, it should be a celebration of different colors of skin and hair. I mean, I have red hair and freckles, which is so different. I used to be so insecure when I was younger, but now I really love who I am."

On Loving Her Freckles

Marc Jacobs

"I've really learned to see my freckles as something so special. I mean, not everyone has the chance to have them! And now, people even draw freckles on themselves. Growing up, I didn't love them, but then my mom would describe them as 'kisses from the sun.' I wasВ like, oh my gosh, kisses from the sun, that's so weird. But it also helped shift my perspective. My mom also never let me wear foundation when I was younger, which is something that's stuck with me. I'll use a tinted moisturizer instead."

On the Women Who Inspire Her

"My mom really inspires me, and I definitely look up to my aunt. She was in the 1984 Olympics, and she was actually the first woman to win gold on the bars in the United States. Her work ethic is impeccable and incredible, and she's really taught me a lot about having a strong dedication to whatever it is you love to do.В

"But in the industry, one person I really look up to is Selena Gomez. She is such a strong and powerful woman, and she also stands for women's empowerment. She's been through so much with her health, and yet she stays so true to her fans and stays supportive. She's still so appreciative after everything she's been through. I've also heard stories about her and that she's just the kindest person."

On Her Secret for Lustrous Strands

Marc Jacobs

"Everyone thinks I have some magical secret, but I actually don't really do anything to my hair! I really just try not to use heat on my hair until I absolutely have to-most days I literally just take a shower and let it air dry. I also use a lot of oils to keep it hydrated-like argan oil or coconut oil-it just gives it a shiny vibe. I also really love dry shampoo."

On Her Wellness Routine

"I love to workout. It's my thing. Especially taking a dance class. If I'm really stressed out or going through a hard time, dance is definitely my escape. It's a way for me to express myself through my movement. So I'll go to my home studioВ Academy of Dance Westlake Village. It's where I've trained ever since I was little, and now I know all the kids there. It's like a second home for me, which I love. It's also really inspiring for me to see all the kids and give them advice.

"As for my diet, I go through these spurts of either eating very healthy or very unhealthy. When I'm eating healthy, I tend to eat a lot of chicken and greens and a lot of smoothies. But my boyfriend eats pretty badly, so I'll also go through phases of getting ice cream every night and eating Reese's. But for me, it's more about the exercise. It really keeps me going. I love to box. I love to run. Running is also a good escape. If I'm going through a hard time I just go for a run."

On Her Beauty Must-Haves

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser $18Shop

To keep her skin healthy despite the sweat and layers of makeup that comes with the job, Thompson tells me she reliesВ on this lightweight option. "I love toВ use this cleanser from Glossier, and then I'll go in right after withВ its moisturizer."

Glossier Hydrating Face Moisturizer $22Shop

"I love the combination of using this cream right after the cleanser. It's SO good, and it really gets into the skin and keeps it moisturized. My skin is really dry, but whenever I put this on I don't even need foundation."

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer $30Shop

"This is the best-tinted moisturizer. It's really thin, and it doesn't cover up my freckles, which I really like. Plus, it has sunscreen, which is what I need because I burn quickly."

Unite U Argan Oil $43Shop

For hydrated and healthy hair, Thompson touts this argan oil from Unite. It works as a natural heat protectant and lends weightless shine and cuticle repair.

Dove Refresh + Care Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo $4Shop

"This dry shampoo is so good. It's the best thing, and I just started using it and it's all I do now. I just spray the Dove dry shampoo."

Curious to know where you'll see Thompson next? True to form, she has a lot in store for us.

"I don't know if I'm allowed to talk about it, but I do have a top-secret campaign coming up. It's something I've wanted to do since I was aboutВ 5 years old, so I'm really excited. Other than that, I plan on doing a lot of traveling, and fashion week is coming up, which is always so fun. Also, pursuing acting! I just worked on a film with Seann William Scott, which will hopefully be coming out next year, and IВ have another film coming out in June. I'm loving acting at the moment and just trying new things."В
