This Look Might Be Unexpected, But It's Perfect for the Holidays

CLIQUE Studios

Here at Byrdie, we give you the lowdown on the latest and greatest products, new beauty tips we can't help but share, and, of course, quick and doable tutorials to make it all happen. This year, we're taking our digital agenda into the real world. With our series, House Calls, we're going to the homes of real Byrdie readers and beauty influencers to make their hair and makeup dreams a reality. Watch and enjoy!

Our makeup MO consists of blush, brows, and mascara, but there's something about this time of year that has us wanting more. Maybe we want an excuse to test-drive shimmery products, or perhaps we don't want to arrive at the next holiday party having a “girl stole my look” moment. You might even chalk it up to Instagram envy. Whatever it is, let's be honest: We're only just getting into the thick of party season, meaning it's time to up our makeup game.

Using a brush (here, Nasrat is using the one from the palette, but she also usedВ Morphe), pat your chosen silvery-blue shadowВ over your entire lid, starting at the outer corner and working your way in. Here, Nasrat started with the shade Dimension from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Prism Eyeshadow Palette ($42). Next, she used a darker blue shade (Osiris) as an eyeliner. But before tapping the color along the lash line (don't drag it; it'll create a different effect), wet the brush to intensify the color. Finish by tapping a soft shimmery brown, like Sphinx, intoВ your crease and blend it in.В Finish your shadow by patting the same shade along your lower lash line using a wet, clean brush.В

Renault's favorite part of any look is highlighter, and luckily for her, Nasrat agreed.В ChooseВ a highlighter that complements your skin tone and eye shadow color, she says. Here, she used Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter in Blinded By the Light ($30), and added a dab to the inner corners of each eye.

Next, brush the highlighter onto your brow bones, cheekbones, Cupid's bow, bridge of your nose, tip of the nose, and the sides of your chin (avoid the center -you want to keep the entire T-zone area matte). Here's where things get a little unorthodox: Add some highlighting action onto the backs of your hands. “When you're at a holiday party and you're holding a drink, your hands will be the center of attention,” says Nasrat.

Curl your lashes gently to give them a little bit of a lift. Avoid clamping the curler down-you'll end up with crimped lashes rather than curled ones. Next, brush on mascara, but avoid the tips of the lashes for a more fluttery look. The great thing about Benefit's They're Real! Lengthening Mascara ($24) is that the formula is long-lasting andВ won't smudge (perfect for a long evening out).

The look isn't complete until you add a veil of gloss to your lips. Something that's high-shine and has a subtle hint of sparkle is all you need to bring the allover-glow effect into action.В Our pick:В Ulta Beauty Lip Plumping Transforming Top Coat in Ethereal ($10).
