This Free Trick Will Completely Change Your Beauty Look

How much do you think about the way you part your hair? If you're anything like us, not a whole lot: You have your go-to side (or middle), you arrange your strands that way while drying them, and that's that.

But you might be underestimating just how much switching things up can transform your look. The way you position your hair creates different optical illusions for your bone structure, whether it's giving your cheeks a more sculpted look, emphasizing the arch of your eyebrows, or downplaying a wide forehead. All this, and you never have to encounter a scalpel, a contouring palette, or your wallet, for that matter.

Exhibit A: our favorite hair chameleon, Rihanna. Notice how she plays with not only the positioning but also the styling of each part: Stopping the center part in the middle of the crown makes for a bohemian look, while that off-center part is practically nonexistent-the ultimate lazy-girl dream.

But our favorite has to be that sleek, severe, and hella-chic side part. Get the same kind of definition by sectioning off your hair with a pin-tail comb (try Fromm's Diana, $3), which will give you a nice sharp line. Finish it off with Kenra's Shine Spray ($17).

Gigi Hadid

True to her laid-back vibe, the model opts to change things up with a beachy swoop rather than a severe line. Hold the look into place while still maintaining that bouncy texture with a flexible pomade, like Bumble and Bumble's Semisumo ($29). Simply apply a coating to your hands, and tousle your hair to one side.

Olivia Palermo

We rarely see this street style star without her center part, not that we can blame her-it's super flattering to her defined cheekbones and jawline. But she also looks quite lovely on those rare occasions when she opts for a look that's more askew.

Kendall Jenner

Jenner is another center-part devotee-in fact, we really only see the model switch it upВ for the runway. But while we love her signature look, we're really feeling the zigzagged look she sported for the Michael Kors Fall 15 presentation.

The actress and recording artist never fails to impress us with her ever-changing locks, but her center-parted bob at theВ Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere in December was just perfect in its elegant simplicity. If you're opting for the same look, keep flyaways at bay with just a couple of drops of Shu Uemura's Essence AbsolueВ ($69).

Emily Ratajkowski

Looks like EmRata read up onВ the most universally flattering spot to part your hair-just above the arch of your eyebrow, as demonstrated in the center picture above.
